Safety Features to look for when choosing an Evacuation Chair

A good evacuation chair will consider the evacuee’s safety and the operators’ safety equally.

Safety Harness

The Evacusafe chair comes with sturdy three point safety harness to keep users on the chair and ensuring they can fall sideways or down on the seat. The seat belts have two shoulder belts that clip into a belt that goes between the legs meaning it is also quick to fit.

There are also leg straps to keep the evacuee’s legs in place and ensure they don’t knock against obstacles.

Integrated Carry Handles

Ergonomic, anti-slip carry handles are located at the top, bottom and back of the chair, this makes it easy to keep a firm grip and for two operators to carry the chair over uneven ground as needed or for one operator to use the powerred wheels to carry the chair up or down stairs while maintaining a firm grip and full control at all times.

Wheels for moving up and down stairs

While at the front are small swivelling castor type wheels for moving the chair round tight corners, the sturdy rear wheels are designed to work on stairs as well as on flat ground. The battery power allows moving of the chair with the minimum of effort.

Designed for Comfort

The chair has a wide seat and a padded head rest to ensure comfort, even while moving up and down stairs, the foot rests add further comfort, especially for those recovering from leg injuries or surgery.

Easy to Use Controls and Multiple Speed Settings

The controls are designed to be uncomplicated and easy for anyone to use and understand including one button to set the speed and one to set the direction (ascending or descending).

With 4 speed settings slower speeds can be used when needed for safety or faster speeds when there is an emergency where time is of the essence. The low speed is also a good place to start if the person sat in the chair is nervous and needs time to get used to the chair.

The chair weighs only 29kg but has a capacity of up to 180kgs. 

The 'e-powered' design of the chair means it is easy for one person to operate on their own. Everyone in a carehome, hospice, school, hospital or other location can be trained on using the evacuation chair and the chair comes with a full instructional DVD for training staff. 

Also inclouded are a dust cover, wall mounting hooks and glow in the dark sign ensuring it can easily be located during any power cuts. The ideal storage location is in a stairwell where the design means it can be stowed flat against the wall ensuring it doesn't block the way.
